Gardner Convert Chod Hooks

Product Description
It has to be said, the Chod Hook was not the easiest project we've ever embarked on; to design the perfect hook for Chod and Stiff Link style rigs requires an in-depth understanding of exactly how these rigs work and an awful lot of field testing, fine tuning, retesting...it's partly science and research, and partly sheer inspiration and creative flair.

Fortunately the Gardner Team is blessed with some extremely ingenious anglers, past masters in the art of these styles of rig right, the original innovators of the key hook section on the Hinged Stiff Link, that later came to be known as the Chod rig (as it is popularly called today).

So what makes the ideal Chod Hook?

The quality of the hook point is essential. For maximising the effectiveness of any modern specialist rig, the Chod Hook needs a phenomenally sharp, long straight point, precisely etched onto an extra strong forged and tempered high carbon steel wire.

It needs all of that, without compromising one bit on the power and strength of the hook as it is made - Chod Hooks need to be strong to cope with big hard fighting carp...and that's exactly what they are!

The pattern features a wide gape, non reversed bend and medium length shank, with a well formed 15 degree out-turned eye that ensures that materials like Trip Wire and fluorocarbons exit the inside of the eye at the optimum angle, encouraging the hook to turn aggressively with a whipping style No-knot and Dumhoff knot or when combined with specialist rigs such as the Multi Rig and D-rigs.

The out-turned eye effectively reduces unnecessary kinking on monofilament-type hooklinks that may reduce their performance.

The medium length shank is angled slightly in, towards the hook point, which is a critical attribute in providing the strongest possible hook holds, giving you total confidence when you are playing the carp of a lifetime.

Whilst we can't divulge too much about how and why we came to these conclusions during the development of the Chod Hook, we can safely say that this is pretty much the key secret as to why it is fast becoming THE pattern of choice for this new and exciting style of fishing
